     CHILLS AND THRILLS! It's creepy, crawly and so much fun it's spooky! Your little ghost or goblin will help haunt Long Center's Dell Hall for Austin Symphony Orchestra's annual Halloween Children's Concert. This exciting concert features frightfully fun symphonic music that is stimulating for young eyes and ears (ages 4-11). This season, your ASO will feature The Composer is Dead a riotous collaboration between composer Nathaniel Stookey and children's author Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler) that combines two elements of great storytelling: music and suspense. ASO Assistant Conductor Pablo Zamora and actor André Martin will lead the orchestra through this gripping murder mystery where every member of the orchestra is a suspect! The mysterious whodunit gets underway with Pre-Concert Activities for Kids at 2:00 pm on the Long Center's H-E-B Terrace, including musical and Halloween crafts, games, and an Instrument Petting Zoo. A one-hour narrated concert will follow, starting at 3:00 pm in Dell Hall. Come in costume - many members of the orchestra will too. Originally a program of Wimberley High School, Shakespeare Under the Stars has been fully funded and administered by the EmilyAnn Theatre since 1998. This unique Shakespeare Intensive offers students the opportunity to study and perform one of Shakespeare's plays during the summer. Students select an area of technical theatre (set construction, costuming, or lighting) on which to focus. With guidance, students aid in the construction of the costumes and sets. Set in a 55-acre lush tropical landscape, the Zoo is home to more than 4,500 exotic animals representing more than 800 species. Operated by the not-for-profit Houston Zoo, Inc., the Houston Zoo is located at 6200 Golf Course Drive in beautiful Hermann Park.   Building Blocks of the Orchestra.

     Through our innovative Building Blocks program, ASO musicians interact with thousands of young students (grades Pre-K–3) annually in a school setting and introduce them to the instruments of the orchestra, laying a firm foundation for music appreciation. Presentations feature rotating chamber ensembles of ASO musicians, including a string quartet, woodwind quintet, and brass quintet, as well as individual percussion and harp demonstrations. Thanks to our generous funders, approximately 43 elementary schools will receive a fully-funded Building Blocks presentation during our 2024-2025 season!
